Alabama and Florida will meet in the SEC Championship to determine one side of the BCS title equation.
The other will likely come from among the Big 12 South trio of Texas Tech, Texas and Oklahoma.
If OU and Texas win out, a three-way tie for the South title will ensue, the tiebreaker going to the team ranked highest in the BCS Standings.
In this week’s BCS rankings, Texas is third and the Sooners are fifth. The coaches poll has OU fourth and Texas fifth, while the Harris poll flip-flops those rankings.
So then, why is Texas ranked ahead of OU in the BCS?
The computers, which have the Longhorns two spots higher than OU at No. 3.
But that will change if the Sooners win their remaining two games against Texas Tech (No. 1 in the computers) and Oklahoma State (No. 11 in the computers).
That’s why a three-way tie will probably end up favoring the Sooners, sending them to the Big 12 Championship — and with a win there to the national championship — ahead of the Longhorns, even though Texas won the head-to-head matchup.
"The way my system works in a three-way tie is that a win over a No. 1 team is worth more in November than in October,” said Richard Billingsley, who operates one of six computer ratings that factor into the BCS. "Therefore, an OU win over No. 1 Texas Tech would be worth more than the Texas win over the No. 1 Sooners earlier in the season.”
By beating the Red Raiders in two weeks, OU would boost its computer ranking significantly.
Consider this: When Tech defeated then-No. 1 Texas, the Red Raiders jumped from No. 10 in the computers to No. 1.
OU figures to benefit from a similar jump in the computers, which would move the Sooners past Texas in the BCS, even if the human polls remain status quo.
"If OU wins out, they are not a lock to jump Texas in my rankings,” Billingsley said. "But OU looks to be in a good position.”

Re: Interesting...
I hope y'all win but it should put Texas in the big game.
It would be total b.s. if y'all get in ahead of us. B.s.
I'm angry in advance.

Don't forget that the computers are only 1/3 of the formula.
The human polls hold 2/3 the vote.
Fuck the Sooners.

Re: Interesting...
well......so much for that. Boomer Sooner. I expect them to leap us today when polls come out thanks to their non conference schedule and that straight ass whoopin they layed down last night. Damn, what a smashing.
Only hope now is a loss by Gators then beat Bama and a TX OU champ game.
Congrats. They're probly better

OU played like the #1 team last night. I have never seen such an ass whoopin against a #2 team. Amazing is all I can say.
